Noah and I made a trip into town today to go to the library. While we were in town, we decided to run by my Dad's house and give him a painting Noah had made for him. On the way there we had quite an interesting conversation. I was telling Noah that Christmas was coming soon and that he needed to be thinking about who he wanted to give a gift to and what that gift might be so that he could start either making the item or saving money to purchase it. He came back at me with a question...
Noah: Do you think Pappy will be feeling better by Christmas?
Me: I sure hope so.
Noah: Well if he isn't then I want to buy him a present.
Me: Does that mean that if he is feeling better that you wont buy him one?
Noah: No, I will still buy him one, but it just wont be as good!
I'm afraid Noah provides little incentive to get well! Then as we were on our way home I asked Noah to quiet down so that I could call our pastor. He wanted me to let him know what time Dad was going to be having surgery. As I dialed the number, Noah asked why the pastor wanted to know that information. I told him that it was probably so that he would know when to pray for Pappy. As I heard our pastor pick up the other end on the line, I hear Noah exclaim, "Well that is just silly, he should be praying for him all the time, not just when he is having surgery!"
Kids...they sure do make dealing with tough situations easier!

If you have not already heard the news...Noah asked Jesus into his heart today!!!!
We were on our way home from school, singing songs back and forth when Noah all of a sudden says, "Momma, I want to ask Jesus into my heart so that I can be a Christian." I asked him if he was sure and all of the other questions that let me know that he truly understood what he was doing. I did not want to have another juice and cookies conversion. After realizing that he truly was ready and understood what he wanted, I drove to Grammy and Pa's house so that we could all pray together.
I am brought to tears of joy to know that even through inevitable death, I will never be permanently separated from my child. Tonight I am full of peace, comfort, and unspeakable joy. All I can say is that God is good. Hallelujah!!!

Proud Momma
Me: Noah what is your best Christmas present?
Noah: You know!
Me: Well, I'm pretty sure, but I want to see if I am right.
(Thinking he is going to say his bike)
Noah: The best gift is Baby Jesus!

Shoe Box Ministry
Our church is participating in the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child shoe box ministry. As a family, we decided to do two boxes, one for a boy and one for a girl. We have been purchasing items for a week or so and Monday during the little ones' nap time, Noah and I wrapped and packed the boxes.
After we were finished he and I joined hands and prayed for the recipients of the boxes. I said a general prayer asking that the children who received our box would feel God's love and then let Noah say a prayer. Noah's prayer was a lot longer and a lot more specific. Just a few of his requests were that his box would be received by a boy exactly his age who loved Hot Wheels cars, had never had a magnifying glass before, had always wanted a fishing game, and really liked the color orange. I am sure there were more specifications, but I can't quite remember them all.
When Noah was finished praying, I asked him if he thought he was limiting God by making all of those requests. Of course he responded by asking what it meant to limit God. I tried to explain to him that it would be difficult to find a little boy that was exactly like he prayed. I gave him an example of how it is easy for me to make him a sandwich, but if he requests twenty different things on that sandwich, he may not get it because that would be much harder for me to make.
Then he said something that blew me away...
But I'm not asking you to do it, I'm asking God.
Wow! I was reminded by my five year old that I serve a God that is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. My God is able to meet all of Noah's criteria. He can fulfill all of Noah's requests and I pray that He will. I serve a God who is limit-LESS.
If you ask Noah what omnipotence means there is no telling what he will come up with, but his grasp of the concept behind the word is far better than I will ever be able to wrap my mind around. I have a feeling that I am never going to be able to teach my children anywhere near what they can teach me!

Where Does God Live?
Theology from Noah Travis Givens, age 4 1/2
Momma, I think you are wrong about where God lives. Heaven is not up in the sky, it is under the ground. God holds up the world and how can He do that if He is up in the sky above it? Nope, He has to be under it to hold it up. And when people die, we put them in the ground. Well, angels can't dig the people up and take them to heaven because angels have wings instead of hands. You can't dig with wings. So I think that God lives in the ground and when people die we put them in the ground to live with God. That is fine with me though. I think I would rather live in the dirt anyway than up on some cloud somewhere. Do you think they have backhoes and tractors in heaven? They should have them to move around all that dirt that is down there.
