Micah has been trying to cut his one year molars for months now.  I thought I caught sight of one peeking through one day, but it disappeared the very next day.  Then he developed these nasty looking bruises on his gums that would not go away and they started swelling.
When we went to the Pediatrician for Micah's 15 month check-up, he noticed the swelling and bruising and suggested that we take him to see a dentist.  I had been concerned about his gums for some time, but after the pediatrician was concerned as well, I really got nervous!
The appointment was today, and I was terrified that they were going to have to cut his gums in order for his teeth to come through or that there was something wrong with his teeth.  Turns out he has Eruption Hematomas where his teeth should be coming in. It sounds much more serious than it really is!  They are perfectly normal and usually go away on their own.  Because of Micah's fair skin, his look a little worse than usual.  There is no need for any type of intervention at this point.  The dentist said that he thinks the teeth are just about to come through.  He wants to see him again if they have not broken the surface in six months.  We are praying that they come on in on their own before that time.
So today I basically paid a Doctor to tell me not to worry...and let me tell you, it was worth every penny!

Teeth

Micah has been grinding his teeth for a week now.

Just this morning I noticed a one year molar poking through.
Maybe the grinding will stop now???

New Arrivals

Yes, it is true. Four months after Micah got his first two teeth, his top two teeth have officially broken through. Notice the passy in his hand. He does not suck on it but instead uses it as a teether. He has learned to grind his teeth and is driving me crazy with them. That has to be the most grating sound on the planet.
He is still just as bright and bubbly as ever. He loves his Mommy and loves to cuddle. He is trying to crawl, but hasn't gotten the hang of it quite yet.
His gums are a little swollen on the bottom which makes me think that more bottom teeth may be arriving soon as well. He really does not complain of them at all and so far has had an easy time of cutting his teeth. Knock on wood!

New Words

Jonah is talking so much lately. He understands most everything that we say and can usually tell us exactly what he wants us to know as well. This afternoon Jonah walked into the living room chewing on something. I knew that neither Joe nor I had given him anything to eat, so I asked him what was in his mouth. He looked at me and said, "My teeth".
See what I mean about telling us exactly what he wants us to know?

Say It Ain't So!

Micah had his four month check up today. As I sat there in the exam room waiting on the doctor to come in, I found something in Micah's mouth. Yep, he is getting his first tooth! SLOW DOWN ALREADY!!!! It's to early...I'm not ready...but, I guess this isn't about me at all.
In other Micah news, he continues to thrive. He weighs 16lbs. 1oz. and is 25 inches long. He got nasty vaccines today but only cried a little. (Too bad Noah doesn't take a few lessons from him.) He is right on track with all of his "four month accomplishments" such as controlling his head movements, grasping for objects, vocalizing, and sitting with support.
The doctor seems to think that as blue as his eyes are, they are going to stay blue. That is very interesting to me as I have brown eyes, Joe has green eyes, and both of our other boys have eyes the color of chocolate! Micah is going to really stick out with his blue eyes...especially since his hair has a hint of red. Where did Joe and I come up with a red haired, blue eyed baby?

Tooth Fairy

Noah lost his first baby tooth just before his birthday back in January. He lost his second one just a few weeks after the first. They both already have "grown up" teeth in their place.
Yesterday, Noah lost his third baby tooth. Last night we had to leave a note in the bottom bunk so the tooth fairy would know to look on the top bunk since Noah now sleeps up there.
This morning, Noah found two dollars from the tooth fairy under his pillow. (I think there may have been some miscommunication between the fairies as to who was leaving money!)
All that to say this...Noah has yet to see a dentist. I am planning on taking him next week. He is really scared. Any tips on taking a child to see the dentist for the first time?

First Missing Tooth

Noah had been complaining about his tooth hurting and a few days before Christmas, I finally took him seriously and looked at what he was talking about. My son had his first loose tooth! We had a long talk about loose teeth and the fact that it would soon fall out. I thought Noah would be a little scared of this, but as it turns out, he thought it was great. He was so excited about his first loose tooth. He had to tell everyone he saw about his tooth and he wiggled it constantly. It was really loose and I was afraid it would fall out before his fifth birthday (this Friday), so I took him the Saturday after Christmas to have his five year old pictures taken. I wanted one more photo of my baby with all of his teeth!

Today, as we were getting back from grocery shopping, Noah all of a sudden starts screaming, "My tooth, my tooth!" He was wiggling it when it just fell out in his hand. Very little bleeding was involved and he says it did not hurt at all. He is excited about the tooth fairy visiting tonight and says that he thinks it is worth at least five dollars. (Mommy is not so sure about that!) Noah came up with the idea that the tooth fairy takes the teeth and gives them to babies that need them but he is unsure of whether Jonah will get this tooth, or if it will be saved for our new baby.

I guess this means my baby is growing up. It is happening so fast. It seems like just yesterday he was struggling to get that very same tooth to break through. Where does the time go?

Jonah's Smile

Is this not the cutest baby ever? Jonah loves to have his picture taken. Mom snapped this picture last week just before we went swimming. I had been putting sunscreen on Jonah and it made his hair stand up. You can see his two bottom teeth very well. Just the last few days he has started cutting a third tooth on the bottom. It has almost broken through now. Still no teeth on the top!
