Bumps And Bruises

Jonah has once again proven to us that he needs to be in full body armor at all times. Tonight we decided to put some pork chops on the grill. Joe was out back getting the grill ready while I was in the kitchen getting the rest of supper done. Noah was out riding his new bike through the mud, Micah was eating Cheerios off the floor, and Jonah was standing at the back door feeding the dog leftovers...with a spoon. Pretty normal evening at my house. All of a sudden I heard several thumps. By the time I reached the back door, Jonah was at the bottom of the steps on top of the dog. Joe got to Jonah before I did and said that he saw the whole thing but could not get there in time to catch him. Jonah had lost his balance and both he and the dog went for a quick trip to the bottom of the steps. Jonah ended up with a scrape down the side of his face, a bump on his arm, and a cut right on the top of his head. Add that to the cold that he already had and he has turned into a horrible crank! Hopefully all will be feeling better soon.

One Brave Woman

Those are the words I would use to describe my mother, (who was so gracious to come over and watch my children tonight so Joe could take me out ALONE to celebrate my birthday) since she is the one who was brave enough to attempt this photo this evening. A nearly twenty month old wearing a crazy hat and wielding a bat is not my idea of a good photo opportunity.
That is not however why I wanted to post this particular picture. I am posting the picture to show what happens when a nearly twenty month old dives off of the couch head first onto a cardboard box. Luckily it did not actually hurt his eye, just banged up the area under and around his eye. I don't think that "cautious" is a word we will ever use in describing Jonah, and I still think we should invest in some good protective head gear.

Tumbles

Mom, come quick...Jonah just went head over head over toes!!!
Translation: Jonah just did a somersault off of the coffee table.

Protective Head Gear

The night before we went into the hospital to deliver Micah was stressful to say the least. Just as I was getting ready to put the boys to bed, Jonah tripped in the living room and struck his head on the stone hearth to our fireplace. If you look at the pictures of him in the hospital you will see what looks like a third eye in the middle of his forehead. It started swelling as soon as it happened and nearly scared me to death. Needless to say, I did not sleep at all that night. I watched him like a hawk and woke him every two hours just to make sure he would wake up!
Today, my first day at home by myself with the three boys, started out very well. Everything was running smoothly and on schedule until about 10:30 this morning. Jonah (I swear that child is part mountain goat) decided to climb in his recliner and stand in it backwards, hence flipping it over and landing on his head. Once again a huge bump, this time on the right side of his head and once again I thought my heart had stopped. It was a little tricky getting him calmed down since I am really not supposed to be lifting him, but with some creative cuddling, we managed and other than another big knot on his head, all is right again. However, I am thinking that it would not be such a bad idea to invest in some type of protective head gear, if not for the sake of his head, then for the sake of my heart!
