Hives And Puke

That is what sent us to the doctors office today. Jonah had been doing so well lately, but Tuesday he resorted back to his "normal" episodes of puking all over everyone and his eczema seemed to actually glow. Turns out that this is probably happening in response to the antibiotic that I am taking trying to clear up my ear infection. So the doctor's advice is: no more antibiotics for me (he checked my ears and everything looked fine), two more types of lotion for Jonah's skin, a referral to a dermatologist, and a referral to an allergist. Our pediatrician now seems to think that the puking and skin condition are related to some type of food allergy. I have been pushing for an allergist to look at Jonah since this whole thing started back before he was a month old, but I was told that it was useless to perform allergy tests on a child so young because allergies change so often at this age. What I am hoping is that the allergist will be able to tell me exactly what to avoid. That will have to be easier than our current method of "try it and see what happens."
Once again, since the pediatrician is nearly two hours away, we decided to make a day of it and go to Chuck E. Cheese on the way home. Noah was able to take his friend (cousin) Sol with him. He seemed so grown up this time. He found a game that he was really good at and would not leave his post. He kept feeding his coins into that same game and had a blast. His excitement was infectious. He drew a crowd of other children all watching him and cheering him on. It was so cute to watch my four year old be the coolest guy at Chuck E. Cheese!

Another Trip To Chuck E. Cheese

Since we have to drive all the way to Charleston to see the pediatrician, we usually try to do something else while we are there. This time I promised Noah a trip to Chuck E Cheese. I told him he could pick a friend to go with us. Noah's pick was Pa, 'his favorite toy'.

Noah loves to play air hockey any time he sees it, but usually it is an adult sized table. This table was just his size. I heard him laughing and squealing all the way across the room. When I got there, I realized why. Noah was winning against Pa!

This is Jonah with Chuck E. Cheese. Noah is a bit leery of the giant mouse so you wont see any pictures of them together. (And I don't blame him) However, Jonah was fascinated with the giant head. He tried to climb in the mouth.

It was a fun day. Noah had a great time and Jonah laughed a lot. Looking at these pictures, I realize just how much I enjoy my children. It almost makes me feel guilty that I get to be with them all the time while Joe has to go to work. Then I remember that I am the one who changes diapers and scrubs the toilets. I guess I don't feel so guilty after all!

The Wonder of Chuck E. Cheese

Jonah had an appointment with Dr. Kline (the gastrointerologist) today. The Dr. has decided to try a new medicine to see if we can stop some of the vomiting. We will try the medicine along with some changes to my diet for two weeks and then go back to reassess where we are. Jonah is still gaining weight fine. He is now up to 13lbs. 4oz.
I had told Noah that if he could listen all day and not whine once, we would go to Chuck E. Cheese on the way home. I felt very safe in saying this since I knew even I would not survive all day without whining about something! When we got to the appointment, the office was packed and about 85 degrees. Noah sat on the floor (there were no chairs left) and watched the fish in the aquarium. We were there for TWO hours before even seeing the doctor! The entire time as I was trying to keep Jonah happy, Noah sat waiting patiently. I could not believe my eyes. As I stood there watching him I actually began to get worried that I was going to have to brave Chuck E. Cheese alone with an active four year old and a sick four month old. In the end, we wound up at Chuck E. Cheese. It is now the end of the day, both boys are asleep and I am so glad I didn't back out of the Chuck E. Cheese promise. It was exhausting trying to keep up with Noah and tokens while carrying Jonah but the wonder on my son's face made every minute worth it all.
